OLODUMARE – THE SUPREME BEING

Olódùmarè also known as Ọlọrun, is one of the manifestations of the Supreme Creator God in Ifa. The name comes from  the words Odu, Mare, and Oni, meaning “the owner of the source of creation.” He is the Almighty! Olódùmarè is omnipotent and is the Source of all, the Creator of Heaven and Earth – time, day and night, the Creator that has existed before the beginning itself.

Everything known of Olódùmarè is handed down from the oral verses of Ifa, which is the perfect wisdom and spoken word of God, that embodies the 256 sacred odus of the Ifa divination corpus.

Olódùmarè is an impartial God who controls the destinies of mankind in His Palm. It is widely accepted that the Orisas are the ones that punish mankind when natural laws are broken; however, it is Olódùmarè who judges man on his innermost feelings, His iwá pélé ( good character) and his personality. For Olódùmarè knows a man’s utmost desires, feelings and innermost thoughts . Olódùmarè is the judge of mankind that at the end of their life, they stand before Him on judgement day.

Also, Olódùmarè is the Supreme Regent in the Kingdom of the Heavens and earth, and also the judge of the Orisas themselves. Nothing can be done against His Will, since it is because of Him that the elements and the everyday life on earth is controlled.
